Concern over back pay amongst disability care providers

The BBC reports that providers of care for people with learning disabilities may be facing large costs in back pay to employees who work overnight. Changes to minimum wages mean that care staff on overnight duty are now paid per hour as opposed to a flat fee, and employers are required to back date this pay increase for the past 6 years. Mencap has warned that unless the Government cover this back pay, many care providers will have to close services as they will not have the funds to continue operating.
