Supporting autistic patients in hospital

The Thinking Person’s Guide to Autism features some guidelines for hospitals and emergency rooms on treating autistic patients. The article suggests that a lot of existing guidelines assume that the autistic person is either having a mental health crisis or requires a guardian – few are written by autistic people themselves. The guidelines offer advice on communicating with autistic people, and highlights the need to recognise when autistic people are in distress.
