New research on mental health of autistic young people

1 reply (Jump to last post)

A new report from the Centre for Research in Autism and Education (CRAE) and Ambitious About Autism found that 80% of the young people in their sample experienced mental health problems.  Furthermore, the young people reported lack of services and long delays to access the services that are available. They added that often staff had no understanding of autism and how to adapt their services to meet their needs.  How can this be improved?

"often staff had no understanding of autism and how to adapt their services to meet their needs."

Too true and it's tragic.  A recent FOI to my CCG showed that they are not addressing the core issues in their autism review, which is training and expertise of staff in CAMHS.  Until that is addressed, no policy will work.  Having had the head of ASD pathway for the entire region of England state that children can "grow out of autism" that tells you how bad it is.
