Catch up on the Commons debate on autism and mental health

Dr Lisa Cameron MP, led a debate in the Commons yesterday on autism and mental health where she called on the Government to ensure that the NICE-recommended indicator for autism in GP registers is included in the Quality and Outcomes Framework and to ensure NHS England works closely with the autism community to develop an effective and research-based mental health pathway for autistic people.

The debate was attended by several MP's that discussed the topic mental health and autism, many referring to the need to ensure the NHS Five Year Forward View for mental health ensures the recommended development of autistic-specific care pathways. The debate also covered further topics that are often linked to autistic people experiencing mental health difficulties including diagnosis, education, employment and the criminal justice service.
