Court guidelines for sentencing autistic people

The Independent reports that new court guidelines in England and Wales are being introduced for sentencing people who are autistic, have a mental health problem or learning disability, or a condition that may impact on their behaviour or understanding of consequences. The guidelines are in draft form and are currently out for consultation. Some organisations have suggested the guidelines offer consistency for courts, but others highlight the need for better support and treatment for vulnerable people who have offended.
