Demands to reduce autism diagnosis waiting times

The Guardian reports that a group of 140 cross-party MPs have written to the Health Secretary to ask for urgent action on autism diagnosis waiting times for children in England. They are calling for a maximum waiting time of 3 months from referral to seeing a specialist for assessment – in an area of Teeside the current waiting time is approximately 44 months. The National Autistic Society’s Mark Lever says that waiting times vary from one region to another, with some having “unacceptable” delays.
