Human rights breach in mental health hospitals

A new report from the Joint Committee on Human Rights suggests that mental health hospitals may be breaching the human rights of young autistic people and those with learning disabilities. The BBC highlights concerns in the report that methods such as restraint and segregation are resulting in distress and trauma for young people. The Committee is asking the Government for a number of improvements including a special unit to safeguard young people’s human rights, improved inspections of mental hospitals and more involvement of families.
