Lenehan review into residential special schools

The Council for Disabled Children (CDC) has published a review into residential special schools in England for the Department for Education. The review, led by Dame Christine Lenehan, explored the experiences and outcomes of pupils attending residential schools and colleges. The findings suggest that although there are examples of good practice, more work needs to be done in:

  • providing the right support in pupils’ local communities
  • ensuring local areas plan and commission provision for pupils
  • improving accountability
