Proposals to include autism in Blue Badge scheme

The Independent reports that the Department for Transport (DfT) is consulting on changes to the Blue Badge parking scheme in England to include people with hidden disabilities such as autism. The DfT intends to provide guidelines for all councils, as in some areas autistic people are not entitled to the parking permits. The National Autistic Society has welcomed the move, saying “autistic people can suffer anxiety from not being able to park in a predictable place close to their destination, and some can “experience too much information” from the environment around them on public transport”.
