Research explores autism and gender variance

Spectrum reports on new research which suggests that characteristics associated with autism and gender variance co-occur in neurotypical children. The study found that children with social communication difficulties were more likely to show gender diversity, and for children with a diagnosis of autism the likelihood was even higher. The article looks at some differing views on the possible links between autism and gender variance and highlights the need for more studies.
