A joint research project, "Uncertain Futures", from Newcastle University, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust, Scottish Autism and Research Autism, looks at the nature of the worries that autistic people and their families may have about the future. Parents and carers are concerned about what will happen to the autistic person their support when they die or can no longer care for them and the uncertainty of what the future may hold for them can contribute hugely to anxiety in autistic adults. The project also looks at what autistic adults think would be helpful to prepare them for the future.

What can be done to alleviate these concerns? Do you have any examples of good practice in this area that you could share?
