Middletown Centre for Autism, partners of Network Autism, have produced accessible research summaries of topics of relevance to professionals working in the field of autism, in particular professionals working in education or with children and young people.
This issue examines practical approaches that can be used to promote effective communication with autistic children and young people with severe and profound learning difficulties. It contains summaries of nine articles ranging in date from 2013 -2017, exploring communication supports such as iPads, manual signing and picture exchange systems.
It also includes an interview with Dr Susan Sheridan who has more than 40 years of experience in education, specialising in autism and intellectual disabilities. For over 12 years, Dr Sheridan has conducted social skills groups and her special interests include functional assessment and social skills development.
